Wedding Invitation Card Wording: Examples for Every Ceremony

red and gold traditional wedding invitation card template with formal wording

Formal, modern and Desi wording examples you can copy, edit and paste straight into your invitation.

Start with the tone, then write the wording

The wording sets the tone of your whole celebration. A religious ceremony reads differently from a modern reception, so decide on the mood before you choose your sentences.

A well-written wedding invitation card introduces the hosts, names the couple, states the events and finishes with a clear RSVP request, all in a few short lines.

Formal wording

Formal wording names the hosts first and invites guests in the third person. It suits traditional weddings and black-tie receptions.

  • Mr. and Mrs. [Host Names] request the honour of your presence at the wedding of their daughter [Bride] to [Groom].
  • Together with their families, [Bride] and [Groom] invite you to celebrate their marriage.

Modern wording

Modern wording is warm and direct. Use it when the couple is hosting the event themselves or when you want a relaxed, personal voice.

  • We are getting married, and we would love you there. Join [Bride] and [Groom] on [Date] at [Venue].
  • Two families, one celebration. Join us as we say our vows and start our next chapter.

Desi and religious wording

Desi and Muslim ceremonies often open with a prayer and the names of the hosts, followed by an invitation to the Nikah, Baraat or Walima.

  • In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. With the blessings of the Almighty, [Hosts] invite you to the Nikah of [Bride] and [Groom].
  • With the blessings of Allah, we request the honour of your presence at the Walima of our son [Groom] and [Bride].

Wording for Mehndi, Baraat and Walima

Give every event its own short invitation line and its own date and time so guests can plan. Sharing one multi-event invite keeps everything in a single, tidy page.

  • Mehndi: Join us for an evening of henna, music and blessings.
  • Baraat: You are cordially invited to the groom’s procession.
  • Walima: Please join us for the reception dinner following the Nikah.

Finish with a clear RSVP line

End with an instruction guests cannot miss. Adding a date makes people reply sooner and gives you accurate numbers.

  • Kindly confirm your attendance before [date] so we can arrange your seating.
  • Please RSVP using the button below. We would love to know if you can join us.
